3D scanning consists in collection and analysis of data about the shape and colour of scanned object. Collected data is used to create a computer 3D model and can be further processed.

3D scanning is used in many fields of activity:

  • medicine: scanning of organs and teeth,

  • entertainment industry: creating a 3D model of a character from a hand-made figure,

  • architecture: creation of documentation of monuments of architecture, inspection of sinking buildings and other analyses,

  • reverse engineering: learning the construction of an object and documenting it,

  • designing: sometimes it is easier to make an item by hand and then scan it, then to make it from the beginning using the computer,

  • museology: scanning of museum objects in order to create their documentation and make multimedia presentations.

In our work we use DAVID SLS-3 scanner.

David SLS-3

This scanner uses the technology of white structured light. This technology consists of projecting the pattern of light on the scanned object. Deformation of pattern is read by the camera and analysed by the computer. In this way we get the information about the shape of the object.

The advantage of this scanner is its precision and speed. The limitation is the difficulty in scanning transparent and glossy items. This problem can be solved using the matting agent.

Basic parameters of our 3D scanning services:

  • Scan size: 60 – 500 mm,

  • Maximum precision: up to 0,05% of scan size (not less than 0,05 mm),

  • Mesh density: up to 2 300 000 vertices per scan,

  • Export formats: STL, OBJ, PLY,

  • Scanning with texture showing real, colourful look of the object.
